So what do you photograph?

People ask me that all the time! They must be astounded that I actually make a living doing something that seems so fun.

My typical answer? “Oh, all the stuff that no one else wants to tackle.”

Ribbon cuttings, award ceremonies and some times the actual award, business head shots (not to be confused with senior portraits), group shots, and everyone’s fav–the grip and grin!

I’ll never be famous and my work isn’t glamorous, but it pays the bills.

Red Chairs and Flare

Seems like lens flare is all the rage for many photographers these days, so I thought I would try my hand at the art of flare. (So what if I was trained that lens flare was something to be totally avoided– it does add some “flair” to photos!)

The other morning as I was lamenting the passing of summer, the sun was streaming into the woods in my backyard and it was absolutely gorgeous! Perfect chance to capture some flare, especially with my favorite red chairs. Enjoy!

My flag. I bought it the day after 9-11, embarrassed that I didn’t have one. It is a little tattered and torn, but I can’t seem to dispose of it, even properly. It is a reminder of that long, horrible day.

Strangest thing: While framing this shot this morning I noticed the moon on the left side of the flag and a small vapor trail from a jet on the right. Hmmm.

First Day of School

Seems like I have been taking first-day-of-school/bus stop photos forever! Always embarrassing the kids…

Book Club Fun

Book Clubs are all the rage.

I participate in a small book club that meets once a month. Our husbands think we just drink wine and chat, but we really do read the books and have discussions. Sometimes the discussions wander a bit, and sometimes they get a little feisty–but that’s what makes it fun and enjoyable. It makes you read books that you normally wouldn’t choose for yourself. I like that! Always trying to broaden my horizons! By the way, this is a good read. Thanks for making the selection Cindy.

A Green Bowl. A Green Chair. A Camera.

The bowl came to me as a donation for a dinner. The donor stated simply, “just throw it away when you’re finished–we just use it for popcorn.” The dinner was finished, the days turned into weeks. The bowl sat on my kitchen counter, waiting. Then was moved to the top of my dryer, more waiting. Why couldn’t I just throw it away? Maybe it was the popcorn thing. (I have a thing for popcorn!) I couldn’t imagine this family not having their popcorn bowl. Maybe it was the whole “green” thing–reuse, reduce, recycle, I hung onto it. Finally, the mom needed to bring something else to me. It was my chance. I sent an email telling her to please take the present on the chair.

It worked. It was gone a few hours later.

Bellbrook High School Drum line performs Dol Dol

An encore performance of Dol Dol was given by the Bellbrook High School drum line during the annual Spring concert. For personal reasons I photographed the event. My Nikon D2X doesn’t offer the high ISO/low noise levels the newer Nikons offer, but I’m not ready to give up that camera. Hate the noise, so I sacrificed using a slower shutter speed, which created the blur of the drumsticks. Great job guys! (J. Sparling and C. Foster this post is for you! Thanks for making it happen!)
