An Ordinary Day #33

“It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.”  Henry David Thoreau

Tucked away in my neighborhood, on a quiet street, is a simple house.

I pass it everyday as I walk my dog.

During the cold winter months, I noticed the “sparkle” in the trees, but couldn’t quite

figure out what was adorning the tree branches. Leftover Christmas decorations?

I contemplated asking the owners if I could photograph the tree every time I walked by,

but the house seemed perpetually empty. Snowbirds, I assumed.

Curiosity got the best of me and I finally walked into the yard one cool, spring morning.

Not Christmas decorations, but crystals from an old chandelier!  Clever!

The very next day, friends and I were brazenly standing in the yard admiring the crystals,

when the owner pulled into the driveway. Caught!

She was delighted that we were admiring her handiwork and, of course,

offered me the opportunity to photograph her tree crystals.

I love when people do the unexpected.

Art…it’s everywhere!

Dogs, gotta love them.

An Ordinary Day #31

Easter Eggs.

They summon all types of childhood memories.

The pungent smell of vinegar filling your home,

newspapers covering every inch of flat surface in your mother’s kitchen,

always fighting with siblings over who got to use the wax pencil,

trying to decide your favorite color of dye,

patiently waiting for your turn to use that crazy metal egg holder (does it have a name?),

always, and I mean always, spilling at least one of the bowls of dye!

These eggs were made with good friends, mostly adults, maybe a few “kids”.

Good memories!

Thanks Kim!

“Deep and wide, deep and wide,

there’s a fountain flowing deep and wide.”

Couldn’t help but think of that childhood song

as the neighborhood creek gushed water everywhere today.

More rain on the way?

Maybe not such an ordinary day.

An Ordinary Day #29

Isn’t this a beautiful plate of food?

This was my lunch a few days ago—not at a restaurant.

It was prepared by a friend of mine and I was one of the lucky ones to have been seated at the table.

It was perfectly delicious! The type of food, that if no one had been looking, we all would have licked our plates!

What is it about sharing a meal with friends that is so simple yet so extraordinary?

It reminds me of the quote that hangs on my refrigerator:

“Love people, cook them tasty food.”

Thanks Erica, for inviting me and for sharing your talents!
